The 2016 Basic Raptor Rehabilitation Workshop dates are May 3 - 6, 2016

This four-day intensive workshop provides rehabilitators and veterinarians with practical knowledge of the steps involved in raptor rehabilitation. There is a limit of 20 registrants.  Registrants must be a currently licensed rehabilitator with a minimum of two (2) years rehabilitation experience OR a licensed veterinarian with a strong interest in rehabilitation.

Highlights from past workshops include:

  • A six session on-line preparatory course accompanies this workshop and must be completed prior to attending.  Information will be sent directly to the participants.
  • Hands-on learning with our expert staff in our internationally renowned clinic
  • Participation in pre-release conditioning and assessment
  • Meet veterinarians Dr. Julia Ponder, Dr. Patrick Redig, and Dr. Michelle Willette

This workshop is four full days, with each day starting at 8:30am and ending at 5pm. Lunch is included each day. Please note special dietary restrictions when registering.

 

Workshop Topics

Day 1

  • Avian anatomy and physiology/necropsy
  • The Raptor Center’s raptor handling protocols (hands-on)
  • Basic physical exam
  • Basic lab sampling and its importance
  • Triage and emergency care

Day 2

  • Bandaging/physical therapy (hands-on)
  • Fluid therapy
  • Common raptor injuries and diseases
  • Reconditioning – principles and practice

Day 3

  • Medical care (hands-on)
  • Reconditioning (hands-on)
  • Housing
  • Diet
  • Captive management (foot, feather, and beak care) 

Day 4

  • Medical care (hands-on)
  • Reconditioning (hands-on)
  • Pre-release assessment (flight evaluation, live training, etc)
  • Release planning (location, time of day, time of year)
  • Orphan care  

Cost

Cost is $795. Lunch for all four days is included in the registration fee. Please note in detail any dietary restrictions.

Lodging, transportation and evening meals are the responsibility of the participant.  The conference hotel is the Radisson Hotel Minneapolis/St. Paul North, 2540 N. Cleveland Avenue, Roseville, MN 55113.  Reservations made before April 18, 2016, are guaranteed a room with king-sized bed at $102.00/night.  Shuttle service from the hotel to The Raptor Center for each day of the conference is provided.

Cancellations

If you cancel earlier than 10 days before the workshop, you will receive a refund, minus a $55 cancellation fee. If you cancel within 10 days of the workshop, you will receive a 50-percent refund. No refunds for failure to attend without notification.
