Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in hyrax
This 3-y-o female bush hyrax (Heterohyrax brucei) has been losing weight despite a good appetite, probably for a few months now. On physical exam I found a slab fracture of one maxillary molar, and a systolic heart murmur. Echocardiography reveals very thick left ventricle walls, and dilated left atrium. I have blood work pending, as there could be something else wrong with her, but in the mean time am wondering how to best addressed the heart condition.
Apparently cardiomyopathy is not an uncommon pathology is rock hyrax, but I haven't found anything about bush hyrax. Regardless, has anyone here diagnosed and treated cardiomyopathy in hyrax?
