Veterinary Residency Program in Zoological Medicine, Saint Louis Zoological Park / University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine.
 
 
 
The Saint Louis Zoological Park, in cooperation with the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine is offering a 3-year residency program designed to produce specialists in the field of zoological medicine. The Resident will assist the Zoo’s veterinary staff in all aspects of animal health care, including the maintenance and treatment of 3,500 zoo animals, as well as participate in pathology services. There is time allotted in the program for manuscript preparation (5 required during the program), ACZM board examination preparation (including courses and journal review), and research projects. Funding is provided for attending national conferences, and resident is encouraged to present papers during the second and third year of the program.
 
The Resident will be based at and use the facilities of the Zoo’s Endangered Species Research Center/Veterinary Hospital, plus the resources at the University of Missouri. Reappointment for the second & third years is contingent on successful completion of the previous year. Residency certification will be awarded by the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. Salary and benefits are on an equivalent scale to university based veterinary residencies. The program is designed to assist the applicant in achieving eligibility for the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM) and has been approved by ACZM. The first year of this program commences 1 July 2009.
 
 
Prerequisites: DVM or equivalent degree, a minimum of 1 year clinical experience or internship.
