ANESTHESTIC PROTOCOLS (Please list successful and unsuccessful protocols):

Anesthetic protocols are currently under review and will be compiled as part of the medical management chapter of the husbandry manual which is currently under construction.

VACCINE RECOMMENDATIONS (Vaccine reactions, new vaccines to be considered):

No vaccines are currently recommended by the SSP.  Although West Nile Virus has induced morbidity and mortality in alligators and crocodile monitors, to our knowledge, there have been no reports of clinical cases in Crocodylus species.  Therefore vaccination is not indicated at this time.

CONTRACEPTION (Methods used, successes, failures):

Separate housing of males and females or destruction of eggs/nests is effective.

ACTIVE RESEARCH PROJECTS:

NUTRITIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS:

Cuban crocodiles do well on fresh, whole vertebrate prey.  If fish represent a significant component of the ration, the diet should be supplemented with thiamine and vitamin E.  More nutrition details to come in the husbandry manual.
