Clinical Experience to be Gained: General Zoo Animals, Avian, Reptile,
Marine Mammals, Native Wildlife
Research: Related to concurrent clinical cases. A case presentation (active or retrospective problem) and an article review/ critique are required.
Allied Institutions: Bronx Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, Central Park Zoo, and New York Aquarium.
Responsibilities: Assist staff veterinarians with all facets of zoo animal practice: daily veterinary rounds, medical records, anesthesia, radiology, surgery, preventative medicine, literature search/ review. Supervised hands- on experience may be limited depending on extern knowledge and competency.
Duration: 6-8 weeks
Application Request: Application form, Curriculum vitae, veterinary transcripts, letters of recommendation. Usually time slots can be negotiated to the mutual satisfaction of both parties.
Application Deadline: 15 November of Junior year
Insurance: Personal Insurance is required.
Tb test/ Vaccinations: Negative TB test and current rabies vaccination required.
Misc: Before consideration of application the candidate must return a signed Memorandum of Understanding between their school and the Wildlife Conservation Society. Notification of acceptance on or about December 15. Student must also indicate their housing
