Responsibilities: Accompany veterinarians, assist with physical and chemical restraint, diagnosis, treatment, surgery, radiology of zoo animals.

General zoo and aquarium medicine and surgery, including preventative medicine, anesthesia, radiology, internal medicine and surgery.


Research

Student project/presentation to be completed during externship; potential to participate in ongoing research projects

Responsibilities

Assisting veterinarians and technicians with daily care of animals undergoing medical and surgical treatment; assisting veterinary technicians with daily activities including filling prescriptions, in-house laboratory work, and procedure set-up; reading assigned materials; completing various research tasks related to animal health, as requested by the veterinarians; entering medical records into ZIMS under the supervision of the veterinary staff.
