AAZV CODE OF PROFESSIONAL ETHICS

Section 1:  GENERAL COMMENTS

An obligation of all members of the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians (AAZV) is to maintain high standards of ethical conduct.  The AAZV hereby adopts the American Veterinarian Medical Association (AVMA) Principle of Veterinary Medical Ethics.

Section 2:  OBLIGATION OF PROFESSIONAL ETHICS

The AAZV member has responsibilities:

  • To his/her professional associates, fellow employees, and the public, as well as to the animals in his/her care;
     
  • To display the highest integrity, the best judgment or ethics possible, and use professional skills to the best interests of all;
     
  • To maintain high standards of personal, professional, and business conduct and behavior;
     
  • To promote the interests of the AAZV;
     
  • To aid the professional development of those who enter the zoo veterinary profession by assisting them to understand the functions, duties, and responsibilities of the profession;
     
  • To endeavor at all times to improve animal care in zoos and aquariums and promote wildlife conservation;
     
  • To continue to study, apply and advance scientific knowledge and demonstrate a commitment to modern veterinary practices.
