AZA Pharmaceutical Donation Program

AAZV promotes beneficial support to animal health programs

AZA's pharmaceutical donation program with Pfizer Animal Health continues to bring beneficial support to animal health program needs. Now in its third year, the Pfizer program has contributed over $350,000 of free pharmaceuticals to AZA facilities. The donations are sourced by Pfizer from returned product, damaged packaging and short expiration date (but not less than 6 months).

Every couple of months, Pfizer provides a new inventory of pharmaceutical products, available at no charge to the AZA participants. The inventory is announced via an email from AZA. The assembled request is shipped to and redistributed by Tom deMaar, DVM (AZA Animal Health Committee member) at the Gladys Porter Zoo. To date, some 80 AZA member institution vets have registered for this program, but all U.S. based, AZA accredited, nonprofit zoos, aquariums and related facilities-- more than 200 in all-- are eligible. In the latest round just completed in January, 28 AZA member vets shared products from an inventory valued at $59,000.
