Dr Jan Ramer Returns to Rwanda

The Gorilla Doctors are dedicated to saving the lives of critically-endangered mountain and Grauer's gorillas through health care. Their international team of veterinarians is the only group providing these animals with direct, hands-on care in the wild and have vets working in Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Dr. Jan Ramer has recently returned to the Gorilla Doctors regional headquarters in Musanze to serve a second term as the Regional Veterinary Manager. In this role, Dr. Jan will supervise 14 in-country veterinarians, as well as all staff, researchers, students and interns, lead gorilla health monitoring and medical interventions, serve as the liason with all partners and facilitate research on the ground. During Dr. Jan’s previous two-year term from 2009 - 2011, Dr. Jan led dozens of health interventions in wild gorilla groups, oversaw the treatment of seven new gorilla orphans, and helped facilitate the move of two mountain and six Grauer's gorilla orphans from Rwanda to DRC. The Gorilla Doctors team is thrilled to have Dr. Jan back in the saddle and looks forward to two more productive and successful years in eastern gorilla healthcare.
