This course is designed for animal care professionals employed by accredited organizations that promote excellent animal welfare, such as those accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, other regional zoo and aquarium accrediting bodies (e.g., Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums, European Association of Zoos and Aquariums) and the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries.

The Detroit Zoological Society’s Center for Zoo and Aquarium Animal Welfare and Ethics is offering an immersive five-day workshop October 7-11, 2019 for professionals working with and around captive animals. The workshop is designed to help participants better understand animals’ perspectives and experiences, address the challenges captivity imposes on animal welfare, and develop the skills necessary to assess and improve overall well-being. Participants will learn to develop and implement animal welfare programs that meet the AZA accreditation standards. The workshop is comprised of lectures, discussions, group projects and hands-on exercises at the Detroit Zoo.
