black giant squirrel nutrition

2yo male black giant squirrel was brought to us as an emergency.

When presented, the patient was near death condition, extreme hypothermia (less than 30 C), heart beat was difficult to auscultate,h HR 40/min. Blood glucose was too low to measure.

We gave iv fluid, glucose bolus, oxygen, and warmed up, and in short, the patient recovered almost completely in 2 days with good appetite. His diet was mainly some fruits like apples and pears.

So we advised to give sugargliders pellet or monkey pellet to improve diet.

He’d been doing fine for 2wks then came back again in near death condition, hypothermia and hypoglycemia. So we hospitalized it and treated in the same manner and it recovered. But still trying to find out what causes these hypoglycemic attacks.

In the mean time ,

What should we feed to giant squirrel ?

What temperature range should we keep ?

This patient was kept indoor with blankets in normal household but sometimes the heater was off, according to the owner.
