Experience Required
Your Qualifications include: • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (or equivalent). • A minimum of one (1) year post-graduate clinical experience. • Experience involving work with zoo(s) or exotic animals is preferred. • Eligibility for licensing as a veterinarian in the Province of Manitoba. • A passion for zoo and wildlife medicine. • Effective communication skills for maintaining respectful working relationships with fellow employees and relating well with visitors. • The ability to make effective animal healthcare decisions while working under stressful situations. • Proficiency with computer programs appropriate for related record keeping (Microsoft Office and ISIS animal record-keeping software such as ZIMS, etc.).

An annual rate of pay for this position is $31,000 (CDN). A company paid benefits package including life insurance, health & dental, & EAP is provided.

The Opportunity: We are seeking a Veterinary Intern who will report to the Head, Veterinary Services. This is a 1 year term position beginning July 1, 2018 with a completion date of June 30, 2019. This position offers full time hours, with some evenings and weekends including holiday coverage as “on-call” and “after hours” support also required. As the Veterinary Intern you will be a key member of the Animal Health Management Team. This internship provides graduate veterinarians exposure to diverse aspects of zoological practice and the opportunity to utilize their skills in the healthcare of captive wildlife. Your Responsibilities will include: • Supporting preventative and clinical animal care for a diverse collection of over 1500 animals representing 400 different species. • Performing medical, surgical and pathological case management tasks. • Assisting in training and supervising veterinary staff, technicians and students. • Researching and reviewing current literature to prepare presentations to staff and veterinarians.
