Code of Conduct

American Association of Zoo Veterinarians
Code of Conduct and Conference Policy

The American Association of Zoo Veterinarians (AAZV) advances the science of zoo and wild animal medicine and welfare.  The AAZV brings together a community of colleagues who are dedicated to this purpose and who share a responsibility for the integrity of the organization and zoological community.  Science, animal health and welfare are best advanced when we extend and expect mutual trust to and from each other, based on honest behavior. The AAZV promotes the free exchange of knowledge among AAZV members, allied institutions, and other collaborators.

The AAZV deeply values the professional reputation of its members and partners and holds that preserving the confidence of its members is critically important so that they may freely discuss the results of their professional work and experiences, trust that their fellow members will not divulge inappropriate information, and openly interact with colleagues without fear of malicious exposure. Deception or any other acts that deliberately compromises this trust and thus the advancement of our profession are unacceptable, and contravenes the mission of AAZV, its annual conference, and various communication tools.

Unauthorized Use

The unauthorized use of any AAZV conference materials, Listserv postings, sponsored professional activities, and other member services without the express written permission of AAZV would be a violation of the trust placed by AAZV in its members.

Any member of the AAZV found to be in violation of this policy, as reviewed by the AAZV Executive Board, may have their membership permanently revoked and be prohibited from attendance at professional meetings and conferences, among other member benefits. Any non-AAZV member in attendance at the annual conference found to be in violation of that trust as reviewed by the AAZV Executive Board may be ejected from the conference without refund and prohibited from future conference attendance and membership, as well as possible legal action.
