Experience Required
Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent veterinary medical degree and have completed one year of internship (small or large animal) or equivalent private practice. Applicants must become licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Florida within 3 months of obtaining the position. Applicants must currently possess or be eligible to obtain DEA registration, USDA accreditation, a valid driver’s license, and professional liability insurance.

$24,000 annually plus benefits; housing and utilities provided.

2 years; the second year contingent on satisfactory completion of the first.

Program Description
The 2-year Eastern Florida Zoological Internship Program focuses on all aspects of the medical and surgical care of zoo and aquarium animals, as well as wildlife rehabilitation. This includes preventive medicine, diagnosis, treatment, anesthesia, pathology, nutrition, record keeping, staff communication, etc. The intern will participate in cases and weekly rounds at the Florida Wildlife Hospital, and will spend blocks of time at Lion Country Safari (8 weeks) and Sea World Orlando (4 weeks) each year. The intern will participate in regular journal club meetings. The intern will be required to produce at least one peer-reviewed publication and encouraged to present at a scientific meeting. Located along the Space Coast of Florida, the Brevard Zoo is an AZA-accredited facility with a diverse collection of over 900 animals representing almost 200 species.
