Internship Available at African Wild Dog Field Project
Veterinary Internship for Wild Dog Project field season 2007
Duration of internship:
4-12 weeks from May-December 2007.
Activities, are as follows:
Performing and monitoring chemical immobilizations of free-ranging African wild dogs
(Lycaon pictus) and other large carnivores as opportunities arise.
Collection and processing of biomedical samples (blood, skin, hair, faecal matter).
Conducting postmortem examinations if needed.
Sampling of local domestic dog population for basic epidemiologic assessment.
The suitable candidate must:
Have a DVM or equivalent degree.
Have basic experience on the immobilization of non-domestic species (e.g preceptorship
in a zoo setting is acceptable).
Speak English fluently.
Be able to live on basic tented accommodation and prolonged periods camping in the
The Wild Dog Project will cover in-country costs as follows:
Basic accommodation in Windhoek and in the field.
Travel to and from study areas and in the field.
Food in the field.
In situ visa costs.
Candidates must be prepared to cover:
International flights.
Any private expenditure in-country.
