Experience Required
DMV/VMD or equivalent required and at least one year of postgraduate experience (small or large animal medicine internship) is required. The selected applicant must become licensed in the state of Texas before the internship starts.

Program Description
The Fort Worth Zoo internship is designed to provide graduate veterinarians a sound educational opportunity in the field of zoo medicine. The Fort Worth Zoo is an AZA- accredited institution with a diverse collection of over 5,000 native and exotic animals including an extraordinary reptile and amphibian collection; for more information about the zoo visit: The intern will be involved in all facets of this zoological medicine program including: case presentation during morning rounds, preventive medicine program, physical and chemical immobilization of non-domestic animals, triage, diagnosis, treatment and surgery of surgical cases, postmortem examination and clinical pathology. The intern will have the opportunity to interact with the Fort Worth Zoo's Nutrition Department staffed by 2 full-time nutritionists. The zoo has a fully equipped veterinary hospital (rigid and flexible endoscopy, ultrasound, blood gases analyzer, digital radiography, OR, ICU room and necropsy room) with a full service in-house clinical laboratory. The intern will be required to take two out rotations, e.g. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center and an aquarium. The intern will have the opportunity to conduct research and attend at least one zoological medicine conference and will be required to submit at least one peer-reviewed manuscript during the internship. Candidate selection will be made before the match deadline in January 2018. The hospital is staffed by 3 full-time, zoo medicine residency-trained veterinarians, 5 full-time certified technicians, 1 procurement keeper and support staff.
