Program Description
Long Island Bird & Exotics Veterinary Clinic (LIBEVC) is currently looking for a qualified veterinarian for a one-year veterinary internship with a starting date around  January, 2020.  The start date however could be earlier for the right candidate.  We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated veterinarian with at least 2 years of post graduate experience, or a previous internship in a small animals referral center. New graduates are welcome to apply, however,  a one week working interview will be required in order to be considered.  LIBEVC is a state of the art, newly renovated, 3 year old hospital, dedicated exclusively to the care and health of avian and exotic animals. Our hospital is known for its advanced medicine and surgery, and we are equipped with full endoscopic capabilities and minimally invasive surgery, advanced imaging with our new HD-CT scanner, ultrasound, in-house lab, 4 anesthesia stations with full monitoring and an avian/exotics specific ventilator. The hospital is conveniently located just 10 miles from Manhattan (28 minutes by train from Penn Station, Manhattan). Please visit our website for more information about the hospital at Our case load is currently based on about 50% emergencies of all three groups in this field (avian, reptile/amph./fish and small mammals). Interns must also have an interest in working with wildlife, as we provide veterinary care for several wildlife centers. In addition, we provide on-site weekly veterinary care to a wildlife center in New York City. We are affiliated and support Rift Valley Wildlife Clinics (, a 501 c (3) non-profit organization founded by Dr. Malka, the hospital owner.  Upon successful completion of the internship, an ABVP (Avian)residency may be offered to the right candidate. A visit to the practice is a pre-requisite to be considered for this position. You must be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the US and able to obtain a NY state veterinary license.    If you are a team player with a strong work ethic, a passion for birds, exotics and wildlife, and enjoy a fast paced work environment, please email a cover letter (letter of intent) and a resume and names and contacts of 3 references to: and cc: with the subject line “Internship Inquiry”.
